Covid-19

As a leading publisher of trusted science, technology, medicine research, I committed to help public health authorities, researchers, clinicians and the general public to manage the spread of COVID-19. Following an outbreak of pneumonia, a novel strain of Corona virus (2019-nCoV) was detected in December 2019.

We have made the relevant research articles, special issues and entries in our major journals freely available below, in support of the global efforts in diagnosis, treatment, prevention and further research into COVID-19 and similar viral respiratory infections. Our approach is to use the world-class information we have available to directly improve health and to support the virtual efforts of healthcare practitioners globally. We also continue to work directly with our community to support teachers, lecturers, librarians, students and institutions in their work. We are continually monitoring the developments and we will update the content of this page periodically.

An epidemic of viral pneumonia, most probably caused by novel corona virus, has emerged in Wuhan, China, 2020. The causative agent was identified very swiftly during the course of the epidemic, but epidemiological situations have dynamically changed over time: initially, many cases were considered to have been linked to an exposure at a seafood market in Wuhan, but a massive number of cases have started to emerge not only in Wuhan city but across different cities in China and also in other well connected countries.

Many unknown characteristics of this disease remain. What kind of people is mainly affected? How does the clinical spectrum of this disease look like? Are transmissions from human to human taking place in the community and also in households? How long does it take from exposure to illness onset? How transmissible is the disease? When is the infectiousness highest during the course of infection? How severe is the infection, and what kind of people with underlying characteristics are particularly at high risk of death? To respond to the outbreak in a timely manner, it is vital that research responses to the outbreak focusing on above mentioned subjects are published in our Journal of Clinical Trials in a timely manner. This Special Issue will act as a publication media to attract many clinical and epidemiological studies on this outbreak, ensuring a fast turnaround time for high quality studies.
